Did you know that the wandering albatross has the biggest wingspan of any bird on the planet? (the biggest being 3.63m, wingtip to wingtip!)
Along the Kaikoura Coast you can see up to 14 different albatross species throughout the year with only a 15 minute boat trip from the marina.
Kaikoura has a unique marine environment, with a deep underwater canyon close to shore.
The nutrients in the Kaikoura Canyon attract a huge number of pelagic seabirds to within a few kilometres of the coast. This makes Kaikoura a Mecca for bird and wildlife enthusiasts.
Albatross Encounter is a boat based tour that takes you out to the albatross and other seabirds.

Kaikoura, world famous for whales and dolphins, also provides a wonderful opportunity for viewing an impressive array of seabirds, including the mighty albatross.
