Is there anywhere else in the world where you can base yourself for a week, and play a different golf course every day – all within one hour’s drive?
It may sound crazy – but we call it “Ashburton.”
Ashburton, New Zealand, is truly golfers’ paradise. From resort-style championship greens to genuine “country” club experiences, there is something for everyone – and it’s all so close and conveniently located. Several courses are within 30 minutes of the township. With less time spent travelling, you can take your time at the tee instead.
Where to start?
Ashburton’s Academy Lodge Motel is an ideal base – partly because your hosts Jocelyn and Len Stephens are passionate about the game – and have extensive knowledge of many of the region’s courses. Here are their picks, for the perfect “Golf Lover’s Week in Ashburton.”
Highlight: The mountain views, from Mt Hutt to the Southern Alps. According to Jocelyn, “The people are so lovely and make you feel so welcome.”
Highlight: The challenge. Spend an evening at the driving range. There’s a women’s tournament on the calendar, 22-24 October 2011.
