Here are some tips on getting the most out of your campervan cooking experience!
Holidays are all about relaxing and enjoying the finer things in life, such as great food and wine. Travelling by motorhome offers you the freedom to cook and dine whenever you like, in private, with views that will often far exceed those from any restaurant window! Here are some tips on getting the most out of your campervan cooking experience:
1. Be Prepared
One of the best things about travelling by campervan or motorhome is the spontaneity! One minute you might be pondering a restaurant dinner, the next, you might find the most picturesque camping spot, where you want to enjoy a delicious home-cooked dinner and a glass of wine as the sun sets. Ensuring you have some meal ideas planned ahead of time, and stocking your cupboards and fridge with the required ingredients will let you choose your dining option on a whim.
2. Make a Night of It
Dining in is a great way to spend some quality time with your travel companion/s, away from the bustle of other travellers. Pour some drinks, turn up your favourite CD and spend time cooking and enjoying a gourmet meal and dessert in the privacy of your motorhome; a great way to recharge the weary holiday batteries!
3. Go Local
Many New Zealand regions are famous for producing a particular type of food. For example: Bluff is known for its Oysters; the West Coast for its Whitebait and the Bay of Islands for its citrus fruit. Whilst travelling, stop off at Farmers’ Markets or roadside stalls to pick up the best local produce. Take time to talk to the seller about how to prepare and serve it before you cook up a storm of local flavours in your campervan.
4. Get Creative!
Take the time to check out the long list of cooking utensils you have available in your motorhome, then get creative and think up some delicious recipes to concoct on board. Soups, salads, pasta, desserts… your options are boundless! Need inspiration? Check out the entries to our Campervan Cookbook Competition.
