Tongariro Alpine Crossing, New Zealand's best one day hike.

The Alpine Crossing for many people is the most difficult track they will undertake, but make no mistake that after they have endured up to 8 hours of labour most will say it has been the best thing they have done while in New Zealand.

On a good weather day hikers will be able to see coast to coast from the summit of the track at the Red Crater. For the more adventurous either of the side tracks can be done also while enhancing those views from altitudes at 2200metres above sea level (over 7000 feet).

We offer a range of transport options from Taupo, Turangi and Whakapapa Village.

Timetables do change due to the weather forecasts so to confirm any details just call our office the day before you want to hike when we have the most up to date weather info.

Taupo is located one hour and fifteen minutes from the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Taupo accommodation is varied with a good selection of hotels, motels, apartments and backpackers.

You can choose to stay closer in Turangi with Turangi accommodation only 30 minutes from the start of the track. Turangi is a small settlement at the gateway to the Tongariro National Park.

Whakapapa Village accommodation and National Park Village accommodation is only 20 minutes away and these villages are small but the views of the park are the best from these locations.
