The Waitomo Caves district is famous for its subterranean wonderland. Beneath the surface of this limestone region is a series of vast cave systems decorated with a galaxy of glowworms.

Take a gentle boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto and learn about the history of the caves, or for the more adventurous try the unique experience of black water rafting through the spectacular cave system on black rubber tubes. Other adrenalin-fuelled options include abseiling and zip-lining through caves such as Tumutumu and The Lost World. Other activities in the area include horse riding, farm shows and angora rabbit shearing.
