The environment changes dramatically as you move from the Egmont National Park boundary at 400m to the highest point at 2518m. The lower forest has massive Rimu and Rata trees trussed up with Supple jack vines that you would imagine monkeys to be swinging around in. As altitude increases, the vegetation changes through a number of distinct zones before breaking out into the alpine meadows covered in flowers.
Tracks go up, around, and some of the best places don't have tracks. Fantastic views. Unique Taranaki vegetation, some of it not found anywhere else in the country. Interesting geology and history.
