Aratoi, built in 2000, presents around 30 exhibitions each year, with a strong emphasis on work by Wairarapa artists, and regional history. There is also a permanent display of regional history, historic artwork and objects, revealing who we are, where we have come from, and where we might go.
Aratoi is located in Masterton, the Wairarapa’s largest town, opposite the tranquil and historic Queen Elizabeth Park. Adjoining is an award-winning cafe, and the popular Genesis Energy Recreation Centre is within walking distance on Dixon Street.
Aratoi is home to a number of important collections of New Zealand contemporary art, including the Prior Collection and The Rutherford Trust Collection.
