"Catlins Traverse" is a two day and three night guided and fully catered walk through forest and farmland across the Catlins.
The "Catlins Traverse" is a 30 km guided walk. The traverse starts with an evening dinner at Mohua Park. After the night at Mohua Park, the first day's walk is along the Catlins River track through tranquil native beech forest. Rare birds such as the mohua are usually seen on this day. Overnight again at Mohua Park and the second day's walk follows the route of the historic Catlins railway to the coast at Papatowai.
Dinner and another nights accommodation concludes the walk. Four star plus accommodation and excellent home cooked meals and lunches are a feature of this walk. The walk requires moderately good fitness as the terrain is varied and involves 6 - 7 hours of walking per day; light packs only need be carried.
