About

We are an exciting museum with audio/visual and photographic displays on history of the industrial development of the Buller region.

Our displays include coalmining, we have a true-to-life coal mine, 20 ton brake drums used to control the coal wagons used on the Denniston incline, one of the wagons suspended at the amazing 45 degree angle of the incline. We show a movie showing life on Denniston.

Other displays: saw milling, transport, mineral, and brewery exhibits. Coaltown Museum is designed to be more “hands on” than most museums, this experience should not be missed. You will not be disappointed if you visit us.

Physical address

Coaltown Museum, 165 Queen St, Westport, West Coast, New Zealand.
