About

Dargaville Museum situated in Harding Park overlooks the town with magnificent views of the Northern Wairoa River. As shipping was the main mode of transport the Museum tells the history of the river and has an absorbing display of shipwrecks released from the wild West Coast.
Exhibits range from the unique 16 metre pre-European Maori canoe to the masts of the bombed Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior. Our pioneer history includes a fascinating insight into the life of the Dalmatian Gumdigger, while the collections hall satisfy the avid collector with displays from birds eggs to boomerangs.
The restored Aratapu Library houses the musical history with a focal point being Kevin Friedrich collection of over 100 piano accordions.
