Gore Bay is a peaceful, unspoilt bay with lovely coastal gardens, 8km east of Cheviot. The safe beach is popular for surfing, swimming, and gives easy access to the Tweedies Gully and Hurunui Walkways. Attractions include the spectacular Cathedrals; a natural formation of fluted cliffs, bush walks, historic sites and wetland areas. For fishermen, the Waiau River is to the north and the Hurunui River is 10 minutes south.
Cheviot has a scenic 12 hole golf course. Christchurch is one and a half hours drive to the south and both Kaikoura and Hanmer are one hour.
