About

Historic Athenree Homestead is open for public viewing every Sunday during January and February, 1st Sunday of each other month.
(Private group tours, educational visits are available on request).

Athenree Homestead Trust Inc., formed in 1996, when the vision of restoring a rare and derelict historic settler homestead became a reality, since then 'Athenree' has been mostly restored to it's former glory of the 1880's
The house was built by Capt. Hugh & Mrs. Adela Stewart in 1878, who with their 9 year old son travelled on the sailing ship 'Lady Jocelyn' to New Zealand, to help form the only planned Irish settlement in the world.

Come and see how New Zealand's Pioneers coped with the trials and tribulations of settler life.
