Overlooking the tranquil Maitai River in central sunny Nelson, just two minutes walk along the river from the Nelson Visitors Information Centre, is Maitai River Gallery.
Inspired by this beautiful environment, Suzanne Bateup designs and creates exclusive hand-woven and knitted garments and accessories, all dyed by hand. These are individually crafted from pure New Zealand wool and mohair. Her range of products includes jackets, sweaters, vests, scarves, shawls, hats and knitting yarn.
Maitai River Gallery also showcases the work of local argilitte and ponamu jewellery carvers, and is the home of Kaka Hill Native Forest Experiences. Forest tours and handcrafted native timber products are available in the gallery.
