Guided cave, kayaking & bushwalking tours through ancient forest and limestone in the Honeycomb Hill Specially Protected Area in the Oparara Basin on the fringes of the Kahurangi National Park.
Guided tours in the Oparara Basin, on the fringes of the Kahurangi National Park, some 25k north of Karamea. Includes caving in the protected Honeycomb Hill Caves, home to weird & wonderful limestone formations, lit up by a myriad of glowworms, & containing giant cave spiders as well as the most varied collection of subfossil birdbones ever found in New Zealand.
Kayaking takes in a gentle paddle upriver to the third & prettiest arch in the Oparara, the Honeycomb Hill Arch. The river is also the home of the protected whio or
blueduck, often seen dabbling in the swift flowing waters as it searches for food.
A large proportion of the area is covered by stunning rainforest, festooned with ancient mosses. 2 limestone arches span the river
