About

Owlcatraz is a haven for wonderful creatures of many types including our NZ Owl (morepork/Ruru) where the guides take you inside their unique purpose built home. Walk through the endangered North Island Weka enclosures. Take a walk to Owlcatraz farm to meet many different creatures. Lake Owlsmere is a beautiful lake & wetland area where you can feed the eels & the ducks. The Wairuru Caves are an amazing 'glow worm' cave complex where you are harnessed together for a bit of an adventure. Younger visitors enjoy a ride on the Thomas miniature train (weather permitting.) Complimentary tea or coffee for adults, gift shop, picnic area, plenty of parking. Camper vans can stay the night. Open daily with guided tours anytime between 10am & 3pm.
