This four-roomed cottage was built by the first European settler in the district, Charles Turner. Built of pit-sawn totara slabs cut on the site, many fixed with hand-forged iron nails, with a shingled roof and a fireplace of river stones. It has been furnished in pioneer style. The cottage is accessible at all times; the interior can be seen through glass viewing panels.
