About

Ross is a small gold mining town, made famous when New Zealand’s largest nugget was found here in 1909 (The Honorable Roddy Nugget).

The Information and Heritage Centre is a replica of the old Bank of New South Wales’ sited on the Ross Goldfields Historic Reserve, the Centre offers information and local products as well as a range of interactive tourist activities.

Visitors can pan for gold at the Information Centre, or hire a pan, and pan at the local creek. We offer guided walks and have an old miners cottage, gaol , and fantastic walkway through an historic cemetery (1865-1882).
