The South Canterbury Musuem in Timaru is the ideal place to explore the nature and history of our region. From fossils to fashions, you'll see hundreds of fascinating objects and discover stories from our past.

Find out about our landscape, learn more about the creatures that lived here, explore our region's Maori heritage and the start of European settlement. Explore local social history, including the story of Richard Pearse, who flew before the Wrights in 1903.

Visitors can also watch local heritage films in a small theatre or explore local history and archives in our research library.
