About

Te Awamutu Museum the perfect place to start your Waipa Heritage Trail! We're just 30 minutes drive from Hamilton and on the way to Waitomo Caves, Mount Pirongia and Maungatautari Reserve.

Our permanent exhibitions are culturally and socially significant sharing the spirit, pride and conflict of a nation.

From the mighty Uenuku, the Tainui taonga that toured the US, internationally acclaimed Finn Brothers and Split Enz display, to the bloody NZ Wars Waikato Campaign gallery.

We are located a short distance from historical and natural heritage sites ncluding early Maori and European settlements, battle sites and places that played a role in the development of the District.

Te Awamutu Museum is open every day.

  • Business hours: 10am-4pm, Monday to Friday. 10am-1pm, Saturday. Sunday and Public Holidays 1pm to 4pm.
