The Denniston Experience is a unique, interactive underground tour into an historic coal mine at Denniston, north of Westport.
Take a train ride along the spectacular Waimangaroa Gorge, over the 'Banbury Arches' and into this historic 1880's coal mine.
Listening to the sounds of the mine and discovering the lost language of banjos, sprags and devils will take you back in time. Here you participate in your assigned work role: shovelling coal, erecting pit props? 'Peppers ghost' tells the harsh story of 'life on the hill'.
