Volcanic Activity Centre - Experience the power of the planet. The Taupo Volcanic Zone stretches from Mt Ruapehu in the central plateau to White Island in the Bay of Plenty. It is one of the world's largest and most actively volcanic and geothermal areas in the world today. Visit our centre and experience the 6.3 Edgecumbe earthquake in the Earthquake Simulator, see how the tectonic plates are changing in the Central Plateau, see how a live geyser works above and below ground, check the live seismograph machine, learn about earthquakes and volcanoes on the interactive computers, view the continuous films screening daily and visit our volcanic shop which stocks books, posters, gems, videos and volcanic rocks.
