About

The Subritzky/Wagener Homestead (circa 1860) is recognised as one of the more significant historic homesteads in the North.
Whereas most pioneer homes were 1 or 2 rooms this magnificent home had 15.
Restored in the 1960's the homestead has not lost any of its "old" charm and one can still imagine it as the headquarters of a huge estate that stretched from Awanui (just North of Kaitaia) through to Cape Reinga.
Regular tours of the homestead are available during the summer season and can be arranged on request during the off season. However the house is currently closed to the public as we are finishing a $700,000 restoration - The grounds are still open and we hope to have the homestead available to the public this coming summer.
