ワインの名産地マーティンボロ

グレイタウンの魅力を発見

ヴィクトリア朝時代の面影を保つグレイタウンは洗練された雰囲気の漂う田舎町です。設立は1854年、ニュージーランドで初めて計画的に内陸部に建設された町でした。近年ではメイン・ストリート沿いに無料Wi-Fiホットスポットが設置され、新しい時代に入っています。

• クレジットカードをお忘れなく。グレイタウンには個性的なブティックやアート・ギャラリー、アンティーク・ショップ、カフェなどが集まっていて、ニュージーランドでも随一のショッピングが楽しめます。

カータートンは1857年に設立されて以来、アート界で重要な地位を占めてきました。

• アート&クラフトの好きな方にとって、カータートンは見逃せない場所です。ハイ・ストリートにはアート・ギャラリー、カフェ、リサイクルショップなどが軒を連ねています。地元アーチストや工芸職人のアトリエを訪問するのもおすすめです。
• イギリスの史跡ストーンヘンジを現代ニュージーランド風にアレンジしたストーンヘンジ・アオテアロアへ行ってみましょう。
• 北方面へ少し車を走らせると、グラッドストーンやデーキンス・ロードといったワイン用ブドウ園の集まるエリアがあります。

Masterton for family play

The largest of the five towns that make up the Wairarapa Masterton is vibrant, is a town that is suitable for family travel. It has traditionally functioned as the center of the surrounding farm area.

• Queen Elizabeth Park has a full range of children's playgrounds, including Flying Fox, mini golf, a skate park, and a suspension bridge leading to Deer Park. It's a great place to enjoy a picnic.
• Go back in time with the Vintage Aviator Collection(opens in new window) at the historic Hood Aerodrome . There is no other place in the world where military aircraft from the time of World War I were so preserved in flight.
• As you drive north inland on the North Island of New Zealand, you'll suddenly see a seven-story tower at the Tui Brewery. Stop by the Tui headquarters(opens in new window) for a coffee or beer tasting.

Spend time on the beach at Castle Point

If you're visiting the Wairarapa region, it 's standard to spend the day at Castle Point on the beach.

• Climb onto the magnificent Castle Rock, 162 meters high.
• You can walk to Castle Point Lighthouse, one of New Zealand's last manned lighthouses.
• The Castle Point Reserve is home to the Brachyglottis compactus, a rare daisy in the world.
• Observe limestone reefs with lots of fossils.
• New Zealand fur seals and several types of dolphins often appear in the waters just off the beach . Occasionally you can also see small whales.

Pukaha / Mount Bruce National Wildlife Sanctuary

The Pukaha / Mount Bruce Wildlife Sanctuary is committed to the conservation and restoration of endangered New Zealand wildlife . 

• Kaka comes out of the forest every day at 3pm feeding time.
• Eels are fed daily at 1:30 pm.
• You can watch them roam while sniffing the ground covered with fallen leaves in a breeding facility that matches the nocturnal kiwis.
• Valuable wild birds such as cocaco, stitchbird, takahe, kakariki, and black teal live in the lush forest.
• There are many audiovisual materials and interactive exhibits for children, so you can enjoy learning.
• Take a stroll along the promenade stretched through the magnificent forests of large trees such as Rim, Rata and Kahicatea.

Go to Cape Palliser

Cape Palliser is located at the southernmost tip of the North Island. Get your camera and picnic ready and go out.

• A mysterious rock formation can be seen through the forests of the Putangirua Pinnacles Landscape Reserve.
• Visit Nawi, a hunter town with tractors on the beach.
• The lighthouse, which stands on 250 steps, was built in 1897.
• Along the way, you can see the largest colony on the North Island of New Zealand fur seals by the sea.
• Traces of early Maori inhabitants can still be seen. Look for stepped terrain and sweet potato storage.
