Kate Rew, journalist and founder of the outdoor swimming society, recently fulfilled a life long dream to travel to New Zealand.

Known for her outdoor swimming around Britain, and as the author of the book ‘Wild Swim’, Kate travelled the length of the South Island to discover a unique set of ‘wild’ experiences.

She tested her downhill skills with a bike ride down the slopes of the Remarkables mountain range in Queenstown, walked the picturesque coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park, kayaked through icebergs on one of Aoraki Mt Cook’s glacial lakes, swam the clear blue waters of the Pelorus River, and observed the wonder of the night sky at Lake Tekapo.

Kate also explored the Marlborough Sounds with local Maori Guide Kiley Nepia to gain an understanding of Maori legends and the importance of water in their culture. The plan on this day was to swim with dolphins, but that all changed with the arrival of a pod of Orca (or Killer whales) - a truly amazing experience which Kate did not mind giving up her swim for!

Follow Kate on a personal journey as she fulfils her ambition to discover New Zealand’s ‘wild side’…
