Christchurch’s closest ski area, Porters, is a Canterbury favorite and home to Piri the Penguin. Keep you eyes peeled as you never know where you'll see Piri on the mountain.
Their facilities and instructors are well suited to first-timers to advanced skiers and snowboarders making it the perfect field for families.
In addition to superb groomed runs, extensive snowmaking, renowned Community Park and legendary open off piste faces there’s also a recently developed café serving up great food and coffee to cater to the café shredders.
Terrain - 30% Beginner, 30% Intermediate, 40% Advanced
Ideal for – beginner to advanced.
Tows - 3 T Bars, 1 Platter (intermediate), and Ski-Mat Magic Carpet.
Terrain Park – Professionally designed and continually developed with tables, rails, and boxes.
Grooming - All main runs are groomed overnight.
Bunk style and family accommodation is available in the Alpine Lodge, located 5 mins below the main carpark, and operated by the Porter Heights Ski Club.
Location and Access
Porters is just 1 hour from Christchurch along SH 73, and is the first ski area along the Craigieburn Range. The well maintained access road is unsealed and with ongoing maintenance, it is one of the safest and easiest ski area access roads in NZ.
