Description:

Track has been reopened with a signposted detour. Combine the Cossey Gorge Track with the Massey Track to create this rewarding loop walk – a favourite of visitors to the Hünua Ranges. The track is metalled but is steep in places and involves wading or rock hopping across Cossey Creek. Enjoy long-range views, impressive native forest, sparkling waters and giant kauri trees along the way.

 

What to expect:

Tramping tracks will:

* consist of formed and drained surfaces.
* be signposted at track entrances and key junctions.

Tramping tracks may:

* have structures in permanent wet areas but waterways will not generally be bridged.

Tramping tracks may also have limited track information, and steep grades.

Suitable for people of reasonable fitness and experience.
 

 

To get to Hunua Ranges:

Travel south on State Highway 1 and take the Papakura exit. Follow Beach Rd across Great South Rd and along Settlement Rd. Turn right by Edmund Hillary School into Hunua Rd. Follow Hunua Rd through the Hunua Gorge to the Hunua village. Hunua Falls Just before entering the village, turn left into White Rd, right into Falls Rd and follow this road to Hunua Falls. Wairoa Dam Drive through Hunua village, continue for 8km and turn left into Moumoukai Rd. Wairoa Dam is on the left about 1km along this road. Mangatawhiri Dam - As for Wairoa but follow Moumoukai Rd to its end in the Mangatawhiri valley.
