New Zealand's premier rowing venue, Lake Karapiro, is a man-made lake on the Waikato River just six kilometres south east of Cambridge.
Lake Karapiro is a man-made lake on the Waikato River and is renowned as a world-class rowing venue. A number of water sports events are held at the lake including yachting, powerboating, canoeing and water skiing. The centre of the action is Lake Karapiro Domain where camping and lodge facilities are available. There are several walking tracks nearby including the internationally significant Maungatautari Ecological Island Reserve which features a 16-metre high forest canopy viewing tower, a 600-year-old rata and flourishing native species.
