The country’s largest ski field, Whakapapa, is well-known for big basins and wide runs. Turoa, an hour’s drive away, hosts a sweet freestyle terrain park and Australasia’s second largest vertical descent.

1.5 hours from Christchurch, is the Mt Hutt ski area. Known for its consistently good conditions and family-friendly facilities, it also features over 10,000m2 of terrain park for freestyling action. If boutique is more your thing, venture south to the Mackenzie region. Ohau, Roundhill and Mount Dobson combine supreme conditions with some of the most spectacular alpine scenery in New Zealand.
