Hosts Janet and Paul offer a warm greeting to their cleverly renovated Dairy Factory, harking back to the days of small co-operatives which were liberally dotted all over New Zealand.
The striking exterior colour scheme stands out in the small settlement of Hapuku, making the building a landmark.
Delicious smells of home baking, excellent coffee and an easy casual ambience make it clear that guests are able to move freely between the kitchen living area and private guest wing.
Janet and Paul have sought out furnishings evocative of New Zealand, many of them made in Christchurch. Stunning stainless steel wardrobes, bedside tables and a wonderful capacious kitchen bench unit, colourful wool rugs atop tiled floor with underfloor heating. The use of strong pure colours, coupled with subtle stylishly designed pieces makes the guest wing a joy to behold.
Kaikoura offers a range of activities including whale watch, dolphin and Albatross encounter, swim with seals, Maori tour, kayak, snorkel, surf, fish, golf, skydive, horse ride and winter ski.
This boutique accommodation is a great platform from which to experience the drama of this rugged coast. The Factory is a luxury retreat any time of the year.
