Martinborough is a pretty special place – lots of sunshine, very little rain, and lots and lots of vineyards. Add in a big picnic lunch and some bikes....

 

 

Surely it's got to be a recipe for success - or at least that's what I think.

I’ve always been keen on biking when a) it involves more time drinking wine than pedalling and b) I don’t have to wear lycra.  Martinborough is lovely and flat with quiet country roads and the numerous vineyards surround the village means you don’t have to bike far before you’re at another award winning cellar door.  When I was creating my business, March Hare Cycling, I wanted to develop an activity that was simple and easy to organise no matter what the level of internal politics or how disorganised your friends are. That’s why I think that including a divinely scrumptious picnic is the key to a perfect day out.

OK, so I admit that food is a bit of a passion of mine.  Not good for the hips but it means that I’m pretty damn good at designing a picnic that everyone will love (if I don’t say so myself).  I get the deli down the road provide us with our picnic  - local breads, cheeses, chutneys, cured meats, marinated olives and a deliciously decadent chocolate slice to finish off.  And as an added bonus it's a scientific fact that all calories are negated if you’re doing a form of physical exercise!

Not only is it a picnic perfect for sharing, but we’ve also got a very special, exclusive picnic spot for you amongst the olive trees at Olivo.  Bliss.  If you decide that Olivo is just a bit far to bike (it’s probably only 5km but there’s lots of distracting vineyards along the way), then we’ll suggest a few vineyards who will kindly let you enjoy your picnic on their front lawn.

Wine, food, sunshine, good friends… what else do you need in life?
