Feeding Weka at Mahinapua

The Mahinapua Scenic Reserve, 8 kilometres south of Hokitika, protects forested areas around a shallow lake that was once a coastal lagoon. There are sign-posted short walks into the reserve or you can take a stroll to Picnic Point on the lake. Curious weka birds are common in the area; the lake is also home to black swans, grey ducks and mallard ducks.
