Visitor Experience Monitor Summary

In 2007/08, the Visitor Experience Monitor found that the i-SITE network is delivering well for international visitors.

In 2007/08, the Visitor Experience Monitor looked at how the i-SITE network is delivering to international visitors and provided a measure of performance on a number of service related aspects.

The Visitor Experience Monitor has shown that the more information visitors have about a destination, the more satisfied they are with their experiences and overall holiday.

The i-SITE network is New Zealand's official network of visitor centres that provides visitors with free, friendly and objective information and booking services for local attractions, transport and accommodation.

International visitors use i-SITE centres primarily as an information source while in New Zealand. Half of visitors were aware of the i-SITE network before arriving in New Zealand. More than half of those who visited an i-SITE centre made bookings.

International visitors use i-SITE centres for a range of different purposes. The two most common reasons are to gather regional information (87%) and to find or use maps (70%).

Many visitors also search for activity, accommodation and transport options while in New Zealand. More than 40 per cent visit an i-SITE to look for general information about another region. This suggests it is important that i-SITE centres offer information about tourism products from outside of their local regions.

International visitors are very satisfied with i-SITE centres and the services they provide, rating centres at least 8.5 out of a possible 10 for aspects such as level of personal service, facilities and knowledge of staff. Visitors were most satisfied with the service they received when making bookings and the information available.
