Visitor Experience Monitor Summary

Transport experiences are a significant driver of a visitor’s holiday satisfaction, making up 12 per cent of the overall holiday experience.


Transport Types

New Zealand has a wide variety of transport options available to visitors. While cars are the most commonly used types of transport while in New Zealand, visitors are most satisfied with helicopters, private yachts and chartered flights. Satisfaction with private yachts, cycling and ferries has increased in comparison with 2006/07 results.

Environmental Concerns

Overall, 20 per cent of visitors to New Zealand indicated that environmental issues impacted on their transport choice, with more than 37 per cent of visitors suggesting they would be willing to pay more to offset any environmental impact.

In general, visitors to New Zealand expect transport operators to have environmentally friendly practices in place, such as having fuel efficient vehicles (81%), carbon emission limiters (57%) and recycling facilities (56%).

Qualmark®

The influence of Qualmark® in driving satisfaction with transport is evident. Visitors who used Qualmark® endorsed transport providers were significantly more satisfied with the experience.
