Waitangi Treaty Grounds
Tau Henare Drive, Waitangi

Waitangi Treaty Grounds
The Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand's most historic site. As the "Birthplace of the Nation" it is where Ti Tiriti o Waitangi, The Treaty of Waitangi, was first signed between Maori chiefs and the British crown on February 6th 1840.

Visit Te Whare Runanga, a fully carved Maori meeting house, with regular sound and light interpretations of the carvings and history.
The Grounds are also home to one of the world’s largest ceremonial waka (canoe).
The historic Treaty House (home to the first British Resident to New Zealand) stands beside the meeting house.
