Northern Steamship Co. Limited
Stone Store Basin,
Kerikeri
This is a unique authentic European cultural and heritage experience. The first Steamer arrived in New Zealand in 1840, the same year the Treaty of Waitangi was signed. You will travel on the Keri Keri Inlet where the great Maori musket wars started in 1821! The Northern Steamship Company was established in 1881 by Captain McGregor and several other steamship owners. Over the period of 100 years the company owned in excess of 120 steamships serving most ports of the North Island. Steam vessels of our yesteryear had no electronic plotters or radar equipment, so skippers relied on the well-known dog bark to guide their ships into fog-bound estuaries.
