Bertie and PenelopeBertie and Penelope are Napier's "Art Deco" couple, Bertie has answered the below questions regarding where to go, and where to be seen during the Brebner Art Deco Weekend in Napier. Q. What is your preferred choice of fashion house in Napier? A. Well I never go anywhere else but Deco Affair of course. The lovely Penelope has such a range of mens and ladies wear from the twenties and thirties. Some originals, some reproduction but all in the best possible taste - plus you can hire if you wish ! Q. What would be your recommended art deco experience for someone visiting Napier? A. Well a tour of some description naturally. We can do some super ones in our 1934 Buick - just check out decoaffair.com for some alternatives or artdeconapier.com for lots of info. Q. What is the Soft Shoe Shuffle Ball? A. One of the more than fifty events at the Brebner Print Art Deco Weekend. Held every February its the highlight of our social season. The Ball is a topping end to a magnificent Saturday when we dance the night away to the super "big band" sounds. Q. Who are your role models? A. Well Penelope and I have different ones. She has always been a follower of Coco Chanel where I would have to go for Fred Astaire. Very smart chap indeed. Q. How long should visitors plan to stay in Napier to ensure that they see the "not to be missed" sights? A. Well one must stay at least three days to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy the sunshine, take a tour and of course pop into the odd winery ! Q. What is the highlight for you during the art deco weekend? A. Gosh this is a difficult one but the sight of thousands of happy people, dressed in style, strolling through the streets amongst the vintage cars and dancing or just listening to the jazz bands - thats spiffing ! |
