River Birches has been included in the Best of 2007 Travel & Leisure World's Greatest Hotels, Resorts and Spas. River Birches is a luxury lodge with a five star Qualmark rating.

Metres from River Birches boundary, is the world-famous Tongaririo River, and within a short walking distance one of the river's most famous pools - the Major Jones - awaits the early morning angler. Beyond the Tongariro but still in close proximity to Turangi are many more trout rivers and tracks, the Tongaririo Crossing being one of them.

The lodge features large living areas with open fires a fully equipped fitness room. Breakfast is included in the tariff and, for evening meals, an on-site chef can prepare an excellent three-course dinner.
