Steeped in history, Ohaeawai (historically called Taiamai) is situated at the junction of State Highways 1 & 12, on what is locally known as 'The Crossroads'. Just as in times past, this apparently sleepy Village is still a major stop for locals and visitors alike.
Still a dominant feature of the area today, the historic Ohaeawai Hotel is a favourite gathering place for locals, residents from nearby settlements and visitors alike. You will often find the friendly, well known characters of the area engaged in a good old fashioned chin wag, a game of pool, or maybe just contemplating the day.
Whether you're passing through or staying a while longer, Ohaeawai is interesting in the present day as well as in its history.
