Trampers at Tongariro

The Tongariro National Park was New Zealand’s first national park. It encompasses three active volcanoes - Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. The park’s most spectacular walk is known as the Tongariro Crossing – a fascinating hike through a very alien environment, complete with twisted lava formations, volcanic steam vents and colourful crater lakes.
