Brown plumage helps the Kaka to blend into the forest.

The North Island Kaka, a bush parrot, lives in the lowland forests of Te Urewera National Park. Clever and often amusing, kaka can be identified by their grey to white forehead feathers and brown body feathers. Their strong bills are used for tearing off bark and ripping open decaying wood as they search for insects and larvae. Kaka also eat fruit, leaves and nectar.
