At night, Cape Reinga Lighthouse can be seen for 19 nautical miles. The beam from Cape Reinga Lighthouse is one of the first lights that ships see when arriving from the Tasman Sea and North Pacific Ocean. It was lit for the first time in May 1941, and was manned by a lighthouse keeper until 1987. The light is now monitored electronically from Wellington. ©: Destination Northland
