Cape Kidnappers by coach

Cape Kidnappers is a headland at the southwestern extremity of Hawke’s Bay. The cape was named by Captain Cook after an attempt by local Maori to abduct one of his crew. In 1870, a local naturalist noted the existence of a small gannet colony at the cape – around 50 birds. Today the colony has grown to around 20,000 birds.
