Glacier walking Under the watchful gaze of an experienced glacier guide, hikers can tip-toe among the crevasses, pillars and ice caves on Fox Glacier. The noises of the slowly moving, grinding, cracking ice flow provide an eerie soundtrack. Fox Glacier is the largest of the mighty west coast glaciers. It ends in temperate rainforest, just 250 metres above sea level. Photo credit: Legend Photography
