Tekapo canal
This bright turquoise canal runs from Lake Tekapo to feed a hydro power station. The amazing colour is created by ‘rock flour’ – very fine particles of glacier-ground rock that stay suspended in the water. You can fish for rainbow and brown trout in the canal or visit a salmon farm – the local smoked salmon is legendary.
