Kaikoura is one of the few locations in the world where whales can be seen from the shore. For an even closer look, visitors can board a whale watching tour.
Sperm whales, humpback whales, orca and a variety of dolphins live in the nutrient-rich waters off the coast of Kaikoura.
Snorkelling with seals and shark diving are other local activities.
