Blue Lake on Mt Tongariro

The Blue Lake - a cold acidic lake in the central crater of Mt Tongariro, in Tongariro National Park - is a highlight on one of New Zealand’s best known walking experiences.

The Tongariro Crossing is a 17km hike into an extraordinary active volcanic landscape. In summer, several hundred people complete it each day.

Tongariro National Park has been recognised as a dual World Heritage Site for its outstanding environmental features, and spiritual / cultural story.
