Ruapekapeka Pa, Northland

Ruapekapeka Pa was the site of the final battle in the ‘War of the North’, which waged between Maori and British in Northland during the 1840s.

The pa features a number of design innovations that assisted defence against muskets and heavy artillery.

A loop track begins in the car park – to the north is the British camp and to the south is the pa.
