Waka at Waitangi


Ngatokimatawhaorua is the largest Maori ceremonial war waka (canoe) in the world.

The waka's hull is carved from two massive kauri trees, felled in the Puketi Forest in Northland, New Zealand.

The fully-restored waka is housed at Waitangi, in the Bay of Islands, where it is used on ceremonial occasions including New Zealand's national day celebrations on Waitangi Day.
