The seaside town of Paihia makes an excellent base for exploring the Bay of Islands. You can catch a cruise to the outer islands or the famous ‘Hole in the Rock’ at the tip of Cape Brett. Across the harbour at Russell, game fishing boats leave daily in search of billfish, shark, yellowfin tuna and kingfish.
