Waka Maori Canoe
These intricately carved waka (Maori canoes) appear at the Ngaruawahia Regatta in the Waikato each March. Maori iwi (tribes) are named after their descent from various waka that voyaged to New Zealand from Hawaiki, the ancestral Polynesian homeland of Maori.
